The Reds have finally joined the social networking site with the handle @manutd
Manchester United sent their first official tweet out at 8.30 and by 9am they had amassed 36,000 followers.
The Reds have logged on to the social networking site, joining star players such as Rio Ferdinand, Wayne Rooney, David De Gea and Javier Hernandez.
Ferdinand and Rooney have over 10million followers between them.
So far, United have followed most of the squad, with top striker Rooney first, followed by last season's top scorer Robin van Persie and club officials and staff.
The first tweet coincides with a new dawn for the Reds, with new manager David Moyes and his team of assistants starting and American David Sternberg last month being appointed as the club's first head of social media since 2008.
United have some catching up to do, with rivals City approaching 1million followers.
