Chesapeake Energy establishes petroleum engineering scholarship ...

The Chesapeake Energy Corp. has established a scholarship for students in the Harold Vance Department of Petroleum Engineering at Texas A&M University.

The gift, funded through the Texas A&M Foundation, will be used to provide one or more scholarships to full-time students in good standing pursuing degrees in petroleum engineering.

Recipients must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher, be involved with extracurricular activities, and expressed an interest and involvement in oil- and gas-related organizations (such as the Society of Petroleum Engineers).

Chesapeake Energy (NYSE:CHK) is the second-largest producer of natural gas, a Top 15 producer of oil and natural gas liquids and the most active driller of new wells in the U.S. Headquartered in Oklahoma City, the company's operations are focused on discovering and developing unconventional natural gas and oil fields onshore in the U.S.?

The Texas A&M petroleum engineering department ranks first among undergraduate programs at public institutions in the U.S. and has been ranked second in graduate studies among top universities in the nation, according to U.S. News & World Report. The Dwight Look College of Engineering had more than 11,000 undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in Fall 2012.

The Texas A&M Foundation is a nonprofit organization that raises major gifts and manages endowments for the sole benefit of Texas A&M University.
