DeLaet Canada's best bet at Canadian Open

Graham DeLaet had to settle for an 83rd-place finish at the British Open at Muirfield last weekend, but the sportsbooks have him pegged as the top Canadian contender to end the country?s long drought and claim the Canadian Open this week at Glen Abbey.

DeLaet, who is 25th in FedExCup points on the PGA Tour so far this season, is set at 28/1 on the odds to win the Canadian Open as he tries to take the trophy for his country for the first time since Pat Fletcher did it way back in 1954.

David Hearn is the next Canadian on the odds list at 50/1, with Brad Fritsch at 125/1, Adam Hadwin and Mike Weir at 150/1, and Stephen Ames at 200/1. Hearn enters the Canadian Open in 48th place in the FedEx Cup points, with Fritsch 125th, Ames 164th, and Weir 170th. Hadwin sits in 53rd place on the money list for the Web.com Tour.

The tournament favourite, though, is Brandt Snedeker at 12/1 odds, according to Wagering.ca. He is followed by Hunter Mahan and Matt Kuchar at 18/1 odds. Snedeker ended up in 11th place at the British Open last week, seven strokes back of Phil Mickelson, while Mahan was ninth, and Kuchar was 15th. Mickelson and Tiger Woods are both skipping the Canadian Open.

Charl Schwartzel and Luke Donald are then both at 20/1 odds, with Dustin Johnson at 22/1, Bubba Watson and Graeme McDowell at 25/1, and Ernie Els joining DeLaet at 28/1. Scott Piercy, who won the Canadian Open in Ancaster last year, is at 66/1 odds.

The last time the Canadian Open was held at Glen Abbey was in 2009, when Australian Nathan Green took the title; he?s at 200/1 odds at the sportsbooks for this week. The tournament was in Oakville in 2008 as well when Chez Reavie (66/1) won.

Prop bettors can also find Snedeker as the 20/1 favourite to be the first-round leader at the Canadian Open at Glen Abbey this week, followed by Mahan and Kuchar at 25/1 odds, while DeLaet is the 3/2 favourite to be the top Canadian in the tournament field this week over Hearn (11/4), Hadwin (8/1), Fritsch (10/1), Weir (11/1), and Ames (16/1).

DeLaet is also at +600 odds to finish in the Top 5 and at +300 odds to be in the Top 10.
